Advanced Practical Training on Proposal Development
Our next capacity-building workshop will be in September 2026, as part of the The Funding Blueprint: a series of capacity development workshops to empower local community organizations to develop competitive proposals for the GEF Small Grants Programme.
This next workshop is going to be an intensive and collaborative "writeshop" where organizations will work directly on developing a real project concept into a proposal for submission.
OBJECTIVES
To conduct an organizational self-assessment and compile background information required for SGP applications.
To master the SGP project proposal template and its specific structural requirements.
To develop a detailed project work plan that aligns activities with measurable outcomes.
To build technical skills in budget development and identifying alternative resource mobilization strategies (non-grant co-financing).
HOW TO REGISTER
Because of the practical nature of this workshop, interested organizations should note these details:
This workshop is intended specifically for organizations that plan to submit a complete SGP proposal. We strongly encourage you to discuss your project idea within your organization to confirm your intent to apply and determine who will attend the workshop to develop your proposal.
The registration form will ask you to sign up as an organization and list the individuals who will attend to work on your proposal. We recommend people that will be your project managers, coordinators, finance/budget officers, or in similar roles that will be responsible for the implementation of the project. There will be several dates and times to choose from and everyone from your organization must attend the same session.

Once you submit a registration form for your organization, you will need to submit the following documents or information in order to complete your registration:
1. Organizational Status & Legal Identity: If your organization is formally registered, please submit your FIC Certificate of Registration. If your organization is non-registered, please submit a Letter of Intent from an organization that has agreed to serve as your partner. This letter must clearly state their commitment to applying for and managing the SGP grant in partnership with your organization. (Note: In alignment with SGP guidelines, formal registration is not a prerequisite to apply, and SGP supports legal empowerment, but having a partner or fiscal sponsor ensures financial compliance).
2. Core Project Vision: Submit your completed Problem Tree responses (identifying your core problem, root causes, and community effects) and your finalized 3-Sentence Project Vision Statement developed in Workshop 1. Attached is a worksheet to help your organization finalize this vision which is the main purpose of your grant application.
3. Draft Project Proposal: You will need to submit a draft of your project proposal using the SGP OP8 Project Proposal Template (see attached). This allows us to preview your idea and provide feedback on your working draft during the writeshop.

The United Nations Development Programme, Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme launches Grant Proposal strengthening Initiative in Palau
KOROR, PALAU —The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is launching a series of proposal development workshops to strengthen community led initiatives across Palau.
The series of workshops will take a “learning-by-doing” approach to empower local community organizations to apply for SGP grants. These workshops – organized in collaboration with Rengelekel Belau Inc – are designed to provide Palauan civil society organizations (CSOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) with the essential tools needed to transform grassroots ideas into fundable, impactful projects.
Palauan CSOs and CBOs play a critical role in addressing environmental and social challenges. However, many organizations and cheldebechel struggle to secure grants due to limited capacity in developing competitive proposals. The programme will include an overview of the GEF SGP UNDP Country Programme, highlighting the thematic focal areas (biodiversity, climate change, sustainable land management), recommendations for alignment with national and state policies, and best practices for writing effective, competitive grant proposals.
Additional sessions will focus on funding criteria, strategies for developing competitive proposals, and monitoring and evaluation tools. The workshops are open to any national and local NGOs, CBOs, women-led groups, youth organizations, and groups representing persons with disabilities. The GEF SGP UNDP in collaboration with Rengelekel Belau Inc is committed to social inclusion and equity; project funds are available to provide reasonable accommodation and travel support for participants from remote communities to ensure an equitable distribution of project benefits.

The Small Grants Programme (SGP) is a corporate programme of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Established in 1992, SGP is currently active in 127 countries and promotes community-based innovation, capacity development, and empowerment through projects led by local civil society and community-based organizations, with special consideration for Indigenous Peoples, women, youth and persons with disabilities. SGP has supported over 28,000 community-based projects on biodiversity conservation and sustainable use, climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable land management, conservation of international waters, and chemicals and waste management, while generating sustainable livelihoods.
